History Lives Here
Built in 1885 by local builder William O. Ames, using wood cut from his own sawmill owned by himself and his brother, The Ames House was the home and office of Dr. Paschal P. Gray and his wife, Agnes. The Ames House has been occupied by many families and home businesses and has quietly stood as part of Ellensburg’s history for over a century. This Queen Anne–style residence, with its Free Classic details, reflects the character and craftsmanship of the late Victorian era. The house quickly became a touchstone of daily life and care in the early days of the town.
Today, the Ames House remains one of the best-preserved examples of Victorian architecture in Ellensburg and proudly sits within the Ellensburg Historic District. Its original woodwork, tall windows, and elegant presence continue to tell the story of a home built with purpose and pride. Restored with care and filled with warmth, it welcomes modern guests while holding tightly to the spirit of the past. Each room invites guests to slow down and appreciate the lasting beauty of this amazing house.
